iPhone Keyboard Video

Nobody denies that the iPhone is a revolutionary device. However, even the biggest Mac fanboys(me) are a little worried about the absence of a physical keyboard with no tactile feedback. Take a look at this video and decide for yourself.

Citizen X Interview Re-Uploaded to iTunes and Myspace
June 28, 2007 by Michael Manna · Leave a Comment
Last night I re-uploaded a previous interview I conducted with Citizen X, the host of the Tiny Political Show on BlogTalkRadio. Citizen X and I discussed how the government uses technology in our everyday lives as well as the potential abuses of such methods. Those of you who subscribe to the podcast may have this episode already, but I decided to put it up again due to the lack of podcasts lately. Also, if you go to www.myspace.com/t4show, you can listen to the episode right there via SwitchPod’s ListPlayer.

Sorry for the lack of updates lately, we tried to record a podcast, which did turn out to be a total car wreck last week. Then the audio didn’t come out very good, so we scrapped it, we should be doing another soon. But Apple has TONS of IPhone news lately, so go over to Apple.com and get all the news on the IPhone which, as the kids say, drops in 2 days!!

Opera Releases DS Browser
June 9, 2007 by Michael Manna · 1 Comment
Opera has just released a version of their popular browser tailor made for Nintendo DS. The browser features a number of features, like the ability to zoom in on specific sections of a page, or zoom out for an overview. All in all there’s not a whole lot to differentiate it from other Opera mobile versions, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The most significant improvement is an onscreen keyboard that makes text and URL entry a breeze. The only downside is the price. $29.99 direct from Nintendo and Opera.

Blackberry Curve Review Part 2: Internet
June 9, 2007 by Michael Manna · Leave a Comment
This may be the least important feature to the target market, but I am a little disappointed with the web browser. It’s not so much the speed, but the hot-or-miss of whether the web page will even load. I know this can be circumvented a couple different ways. One way is to download Opera. Opera is an alternative browser to the built-in ones on mobile phones and supports many things the standard ones don’t, like Javascript. This is an excellent browser and I highly recommend it. The other way(which takes a little more time) is to search and see which websites have a mobile version for phones. These sites are also called wap sites. Most sites do have this version as well, but I seemed to find the ones that don’t lately.
If I was RIM, I would have included Opera as an alternative browser or made it the default browser. I know the Blackberrys are known as strictly email ad messaging devices, but the Curve should have went the whole way with changing people’s minds with their media device.
Qualcomm Chips Ban
June 9, 2007 by Michael Manna · Leave a Comment
The following is an excerpt from an article in the Wall Street Journal:
The US International Trade Commission (ITC) today issued a ban on the import and sale of all new 3G phones using Qualcomm’s chips. The ban comes as a result of a patent dispute with Broadcom, which Qualcomm recently lost. This ban will halt the release of all new CDMA models as well as any WCDMA or HSDPA models that use Qualcomm chips. Carriers will be able to continue selling previously launched models, including replenishing stock of them. Updated: Until this dispute is settled, carriers will only be able to launch new phone models that have already been imported into the US in final versions ready for sale. Import of new phone models is banned, however, Cingular could launch new 3G phones that don’t use Qualcomm’s chips, such as those from Nokia. Phones such as the Samsung a727, which has been announced but not yet sold, can only be launched if final production batches were imported before the ban.

Nokia Media Suite for Mac
June 9, 2007 by Michael Manna · Leave a Comment
Nokia has just released a beta version of their Media Transfer software for Mac. The software now allows Apple users to transfer photos directly from iPhoto, music and movies directly from iTunes, as well as applications and games directly to the handset. It’s still in beta, so their are a couple of functions that have yet to be implemented, like including support for calendar and contact syncing.
Until this app, nokia had released plugins for most of their devices for contact and calender syncing with a Mac. This software, which runs $60, is a great all-in-one solution but, in y opinion, rather expensive.
Boot Camp 1.3 for Intel Macs
June 9, 2007 by Michael Manna · Leave a Comment
For those of you who have a Mac and, for some ungodly reason, still want to use Windows….ugh…..there is a new beta reease of Boot Camp for your Intel Mac. For those of you who aren’t familiar, Boot Camp allows you to, either, run OSX or Windows. Here are the details from www.appleinsider.com:
Ahead of its Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, Apple has released an update to its Boot Camp dual-boot software that adds new graphics drivers among other improvements.
The 274MB release also delivers support for keyboard backlighting (MacBook Pro only), Apple Remote pairing, improved Boot Camp driver installer, improved international keyboard support, and localization fixes.
The beta software, which will be included in Apple’s upcoming Mac OS X Leopard operating system release, allows users of Intel-based Macs to install and run versions of rival Microsoft Corp.’s Windows operating system.
At its annual developers conference on Monday, the Cupertino-based Mac maker is expected to provide an update on Leopard as well as major enhancements to Boot Camp that have remained under wraps for the past 10 months.
Apple last updated its Boot Camp beta in March when it added support for Windows Vista.

Please Read if You Frequent Best Buy…..
June 8, 2007 by Michael Manna · 1 Comment
I would like to thank Citizen X from the Tiny Political Show for forwarding this article from theconsumerist.com to the T4 Show:
The racketeering case against Best Buy and Microsoft has taken an ugly turn. An attorney for Best Buy has admitted to altering emails that were to be used as evidence in the case. If you’re new to this class action lawsuit, Microsoft is accused of paying Best Buy to collect and use customer’s credit card information without their permission, signing them up for “free trials” of MSN that they didn’t want and or weren’t aware existed. When the free trial period was up, MSN began to bill them without their knowledge or consent. A former Best Buy employee wrote in to confess to pulling this sort of scheme on customers, if you’re looking for more detail on how it all worked.
Now Best Buy’s lawyer has confessed to altering documents in the case and has been put on medical leave.
From Law.com:
In a May 24 motion received by a San Francisco Bay Area plaintiffs lawyer involved in the case, Minnesota-based Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Cerisi says partner Timothy Block had been placed on an indefinite medical leave. The day after he stopped working, he informed the firm “that he had redacted and altered documents that he later produced to plaintiffs in this matter.”
The motion adds that the defense firm had been informed by Block’s attorney that he had self-reported his actions to the Minnesota Board of Professional Responsibility.
Richard Thomas, a partner at Minnesota’s Burke & Thomas, said Friday that he is representing Block in dealing with the state’s professional ethics board. He did not say much about his client’s actions, but did offer that “he’s being treated now for psychological conditions related to stress and depression.”
He was not aware of any wrongdoing on the part of the firm, he added.
The plaintiffs attorney in the class action, Daniel Girard of San Francisco’s Girard Gibbs, said a Washington state judge has already granted Best Buy a stay in the litigation. Robins Kaplan’s withdrawal motion will be heard June 22, he added.
The Associated Press writes:
Block reported his wrongdoing to Minnesota’s Board of Professional Responsibility as well as the three other states where he is licensed to practice, and is on medical leave for stress and depression, said his attorney, Richard Thomas.
The altered documents are limited to two e-mails and one memo, Thomas said. The documents have not been publicly released in the case.
Asked why Block falsified the documents, Thomas said, “I don’t know that even he can tell you that. … I don’t think he is going to claim his actions were motivated by Best Buy.”
But given the extent of Best Buy’s foot-dragging regarding document production in the case, Terrell and another attorney for the plaintiffs, Dan Girard of San Francisco, wondered aloud whether Block felt pressured by the company to withhold or redact documents that could prove damaging. A senior partner at Block’s firm, Elliott Kaplan, is a corporate officer and director at Best Buy.
“Best Buy has been violating court orders willfully. This is sort of the last step,” Terrell said.
This case has been hanging around since 2003 and it looks like it’s going to hang around a little longer. —MEGHANN MARCO
Huge 360 Announcement?
June 6, 2007 by Michael Manna · 1 Comment

Microsoft and Namco announced yesterday, what some online termed as a groundbreaking announcement that would shake the world, that Pacman would be released for XBox Live Arcade, and would be in High Def. Message board fans instantly got super angry since an old game being re-released isn’t up to their standards of another new game where you kill tons coming out. But I think this is a pretty big announcement personally. My parents played TONS of Pacman when I was a kid, and I know I have been at parties with those old retro mock up systems and people played Pacman. The price supposedly is going to be 10 dollars, and it will have all new maps.
This may not be something that sells 360’s, but it is something I feel will get more people involved playing 360’s. Although if they made a new game that included Adam “Pacman” Jones (Pictured Above) and his exploits, I have to think more people would buy it…. But maybe that is GTA IV
