Below are the instructions. Take note, Mac users. It appears that you can only do this ROM update via the card:

So far, according to the forums, this appears to be a good update. It doesn’t, however, improve Sprint customer service. Sorry.

Thanks to Engadget:
That’s right folks — Garmin has just announced its new iPhone-like smartphone, the Nuviphone. The device features full browsing, PIM, phone and of course, GPS functions galore. It’s an HSDPA, quad-band phone, also equipped with WiFi, Bluetooth and a somewhat familiar ultrathin design with full touchscreen support. The unit will use Garmin’s proprietary OS which is based on the UI which its GPS units utilize. There’s no word on price or release date, though the company swears we’re going to be hearing about it soon. We’re live from the event and will have more to follow, so stay tuned to Engadget.

MacBook Air Leopard Install Disc Info
January 30, 2008 by Michael Manna · Leave a Comment

From TUAW:
As we speak many, many people are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their MacBook Air. When you open up the MacBook Air you’ll see that it includes a Leopard installation disk, as every other Mac does. This Apple KB article supplies us with an interesting fact: the Leopard disk will only work with a MacBook Air. The Installer checks to see if it is running on an Air, and if it isn’t refuses to install Leopard.
Clearly, with support for multi-touch gestures and Remote Disc, the MacBook Air is likely running a slightly custom install of OS X, so it makes sense that Apple would limit it to installing on the Air. In the same vein Apple warns you not to try and install a non-MacBook Air version of Leopard onto the Air. Something to keep in mind.
Update: This is why you shouldn’t blog before having your morning caffeine, folks. As many people in the comments pointed out this isn’t new to the MacBook Air, most restore disks only work the with model of Mac that they came with. It is still interesting to note, though, for people new to the Mac (right? Any body?).

iPhone 1.1.3 SMS Fix
January 30, 2008 by Michael Manna · Leave a Comment
From Apple Support:
iPhone: SMS messages may be displayed in the wrong order when sending or receiving text messages
Last Modified on: January 21, 2008
Article: 307364
Issue or symptom
When sending or receiving text messages on the iPhone, the SMS messages may be displayed out of sequence.
Products affected
iPhone
Solution
This can occur if the iPhone is not displaying the same date and time setting as the carrier network time.
Make sure iPhone is setup to receive the network time. Choose General > Date & Time and turn Set Automatically to ON. (Note that in some locations, network time may not be available and in some cases, you may not see this option).
If the issue continues after turning this setting on, the issue may be occurring because messages are being sent in quick succession (more common if the messages consist of only a few short words).
This document will be updated as more information becomes available.

Blackberry Wallet in Python print leather
January 25, 2008 by Yiling · Leave a Comment
This Blackberry wallet can hold all your $$, credit cards, business cards and, behold, a slot smack in the middle of it all for your Blackberry/iPhone or iPod.
Besides being extremely unuseful (you have to go all the way to the middle of your wallet to get your Blackberry?!)
It’s extremely ugly… Gold AND python print? I can’t handle either, one at one time, but both in one place? No offense to all the girls who think this is a great product…Wow…

Edit: Holy MOLY! I just found out this is $390!
Remote Disc Details
January 24, 2008 by Michael Manna · Leave a Comment

Thanks to Engadget:
The Remote Disc installer is 42.3MB for Mac, and takes almost 86MB of space! AND it requires a restart of the host Mac. (Windows, ironically, does not require a restart to begin sharing media.)
You have to ask permission to use the drive every single time, there’s no client whitelist or anything like that. Even if you’ve already asked permission on that drive and disc, if you stop using it and come back to it, you have to ask permission again.
Every time you ask permission as a Remote Disc client, the host gets a popup asking if it’s cool to share your drive. You can, of course, accept or decline (but the only way to stop getting prompts is to turn off disc sharing).
Ejecting the disc on the client side does not eject it on the host side.
Ejecting it on the host side, however, gives a host-side prompt about the disc being in use. You can override and eject, however.
To reinstall or boot from CD using Remote Disc, the host must use the installed Remote Install Mac OS X application. It’s a fairly simple process, but sharing an install CD over a wireless network is asking for trouble. It took an absurd amount of time (nearly 10 minutes) to boot over 802.11g. You need bandwidth.
To remote boot from a shared CD, hold the option key while starting up. You’ll be presented with a BIOS-level WiFi / network selection that looks surprisingly unpolished for Apple (but works with WPA and advanced WiFi crypto all the same)
Bummer for media:
You can browse the file contents of DVD discs, but you cannot actually play that media back over the network.
You can’t rip DVDs over the network using a tool like Handbrake.
You can’t even browse a music CD or listen to tracks. Don’t even think about burning a disc remotely.
Remote Disc appears only to be able to share CD / DVD drives and CD / DVD discs, not high capacity / HD optical drives.
We tested sharing a regular DVD over an HD DVD drive, no luck. Data CDs on DVD drives worked fine though.
NOTE:…….haven’t changed my mind about wanting one……….
MacBook Air Superdrive NOT Compatible with Other Machines
January 24, 2008 by Michael Manna · Leave a Comment

This is from Engadget:
One obvious and debated question on a lot of potential buyers’ minds: okay, I’m dropping nearly two large on this here machine, but will the external optical drive even work with one of my other laptops and/or desktops? The answer: no. Regular USB simply doesn’t support the power draw an optical drive needs, which was evidenced as plugged the SuperDrive into a stock MacBook Pro and it came up bupkis. It wouldn’t even let us insert a disk without forcing it down the drive’s maw. Of course, it worked just fine on the Air. Seriously though, how many machines do you have that need an external optical drive, anyway?
P.S. -For inquiring minds: yes, the USB port looks identical to your stock port. Apple is obviously just jamming some more amperage down the line.
P.P.S. -No, this won’t work with a powered hub.
NOTE:…….and I still want one……..

Netflix Streaming Coming to Mac Soon?
January 24, 2008 by Michael Manna · Leave a Comment

This is from Alleyinsider:
One of the biggest shortcomings of Netflix’s Web movie streaming service: It doesn’t yet work on Apple’s Macs. Why not? Because the Microsoft-based DRM the company uses only works on Windows. Expect a solution this year: During the company’s Q4 earnings call this evening, Netflix said it hopes to support Web-based streaming for Mac owners in 2008.
