8GB vs 16GB iPhone

I recently sold my 8GB iPhone and traded up to the new 16GB version released just this past week. There has been much debate on whether 16GB is the “sweet spot” or is it too much for the everyday iPhone user? Well, for someone like me that travels a great deal on airplanes worldwide, the answer is a definitive “YES”. The extra 8 GB enable me to leave my MacBook Air at home(not that I would…..it’s awesome) and just fill up those 16GBs with all the episodes of Star Trek that I can stand. For the person who doesn’t have that sort of OCD, I will make some valid points for the higher storage iPhone:

SDK: With 3rd party applications set to be released by the end of this month, it would definitely be a good idea to have that extra flash memory to fit all your usual amount of music, videos, podcasts and photos while adding your iChat and SlingPlayer apps.

Price:I realize people have always complained about the price tag of the iPhone, especially when it was $599. However, I don’t think most people realize that any cell phone that is purchased outright is , at least, $400. I personally always thought the iPhone was a great deal because it was the same price no matter in or out of contract. I digress. I think it’s totally worth the $100 to add the extra 8GB of space. That is, if you don’t already have the 8GB one. In that case, Craigslist is always a good place to sell locally.

Essentially, I think the 16GB iPhone is definitely worth the upgrade, especially if you are tempted to leave the laptop at home for business trips or vacations. In this case, size does matter.
