Hello everyone, this is Joe here again for T4Show.com and I want to present to you today a quick review of an iPhone app I tested this weekend, on a tip from a Twitter friend, @Colmination. This app is called AirVideo, and the name is self-explanatory, basically says it all.

It plays videos, over-the-air (OTA). It’s lightweight at only 2MB, and very well-priced for the convenience and service it provides, at $2.99. As well as those two perks, it’s also very user friendly. Once you open the app, you’re taken immediately to the “Server Select” screen, as illustrated below:

The screen is initially blank until you tap the + button on the top left and add your servers. The servers listed with a PIN number are remote-accessible. However, without a PIN number is wifi-only, as a PIN is not needed to access your own local network. The remote video streams flawlessly to your iPhone. I live in New Jersey, and spent time this weekend in the Boston area as well as part of Sunday in Connecticut. I was 240 miles from home in Mass, and 141 miles away in CT. In both locations, the video off my home PC, to my iPhone was seamless, including rewinding/ff’ing video.

Once you select a server, you’re taken to the first screen shown below which shows the shared drives list. The second screenshot below shows the shared folders lists, on whichever drive you choose.

You tap on the drive, then folder, then video you want to watch, and it begins playing, with live conversion (if the file needs to be converted to an iPhone-readable format). As I said earlier, the playback is seamless, and I’m very impressed with that aspect of my AirVideo experience, especially when considering the mileage away from home I was, as well as the amount of hops and pings my iPhone would’ve had to make to reach my home PC. So that’s basically it in a nutshell. I definitely recommend this app to anyone who travels frequently, and watches videos during their travels or downtime. Think of it as a backup video-only hard drive for your iPhone, with unlimited capacity depending on how many, and what size, drives you have. I myself have a total of 3TB wirelessly connected to my iPhone via AirVideo. Just to recap, AirVideo was developed by InMethod (www.InMethod.com) and sells in the App Store at $2.99
